Pedro Calungsod was a young Filipino catechist, who along with Jesuit priest Diego Luis de San Vitores, went on a mission to the Ladrones Islands (later Marianas Islands). They were martyred in Guam for their missionary work in 1672. Calungsod was beatified on March 5, 2000 and will be canonised on October 21, 2012.
